About a third of Russians (30%) admit the possibility of artificial intelligence technologies getting out of human control over the next 50 years. According to Interfax, this is evidenced by the data of the VTsIOM poll, published on the website of the sociological center.
The results of the study show that one in four (25%) considers the “rebellion of the machines” during this period to be very likely, 5% of fellow citizens are absolutely sure of such a development of events.
Among age categories, such risks are most often considered justified by respondents over 60 years old (34%), while among young people aged 18-24, every fifth (22%) admits the possibility of artificial intelligence getting out of control, sociologists note.
In turn, more than half of Russians (59%) do not believe in the “rise of the machines” – almost one in four (23%) completely rejects such a possibility, and more than a third (36%) are more likely to believe that this is most likely will not happen, the results of the study show.
According to VTsIOM, among the age categories, risks of this kind are most often considered unjustified by fellow citizens aged 18-24 (76%).
According to the survey, every ninth (11%) finds it difficult to assess how much they should, or, conversely, should not expect a “rebellion of the machines” in the next 50 years.
The All-Russian telephone survey was conducted on April 2, 2023 among 1,600 respondents aged 18 and over.
