Acting Justice of the Supreme Court of New York Juan Mercan has rejected a request by a number of media outlets for the opportunity to live broadcast a court hearing in the case of former US President Donald Trump. It is reported by Interfax with reference to CNN.
According to the channel, Merchan rejected the request of several media organizations, including CNN, for permission to broadcast the “historical trial.”
However, the judge allowed five photographers to take photographs at the start of the trial “until they are ordered by court staff to make room for the jury.”
Merchan made his decision after Trump’s legal team opposed placing cameras in the courtroom as it would create a “circus” atmosphere.
Last week, US media reported that a New York jury voted to indict Trump in the “Stormy Daniels case.”
In January 2018, The Wall Street Journal published an article alleging that in 2006, Trump was allegedly in a relationship with actress Stormy Daniels, and shortly before the 2016 presidential election, he paid her $130,000 to keep quiet. Trump himself assured that he had no personal relationship with Daniels.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg demanded that former US President Donald Trump appear in court to testify on the merits of the charges against him.
According to CNN, more than 30 charges have been filed against the former US president, including those related to fraudulent activities in business. Trump denies the allegations.
Trump is expected to return to his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago, to deliver a speech later that evening after appearing in court on Tuesday.
