Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksiy Danilov proposed to “rename” Sevastopol to “object number 6”.
“The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will later decide on the new name of the city. Maybe Akhtiar [одно из сел, ранее существовавших на северном берегу Севастопольской бухты]”, — TASS quotes Danilov’s message in social networks.
According to the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, this should “break the historical associations with the city of Russian military glory.” In addition, Danilov called for the demolition of the monument to the scuttled ships and the installation of another “commemorative sign” on its pedestal. According to him, the NSDC apparatus is “developing a detailed program” of actions.
Recall that Crimea became part of Russia after a referendum in 2014. Ukraine and most other countries consider the referenda illegal, Russia emphasizes that the issue of ownership of these territories has been resolved for it. At the end of March, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev threatened to use nuclear deterrence if Kyiv tried to occupy Crimea.
