In March, the weather conditions in St. Petersburg were similar to last year, slightly exceeding the average. March 20 was the warmest day with a peak temperature of +10.4 degrees, while the coldest night with -17.3 degrees was recorded on March 10, said St. Petersburg’s chief forecaster Alexander Kolesov.
According to him, the heaviest snowfalls were observed on March 29, reaching 13.3 mm. The third decade of March was notable for numerous precipitations, the total volume of which was 45.1 mm. The last time this happened was in 1971, when the rainfall was 45.4 mm. Thus, the volume of precipitation in the third decade of March is on the verge of a record.
“So is the precipitation for the month, this year 81.4 mm, which fell in March, ranks second after 1971 with a record value of 83.6 mm,” Kolesov said.
Unfortunately, there was little sunshine this March – only 76 hours, especially compared to the previous year, when the sun shone for 187.7 hours.
