The launch of production of Lada cars at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg is scheduled for June. This was announced by Governor Alexander Beglov at a meeting of the city industrial council. Thus, he confirmed the information of AvtoVAZ, which announced its intention to start producing cars under the Lada brand in St. Petersburg in May-June of this year.

According to Beglov, several solutions have been found that will make it possible to use the areas of the auto industry in St. Petersburg. “There is another issue, but the two main plants have been practically resolved. They will start working, I think that in the near future … In June we will get the first Lada car off the assembly line,” the governor said.

Vice-Governor of the city Kirill Polyakov noted that the production of Lada cars at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg is expected during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on June 14-17.

As reported, the auto concern Toyota from November 14 began mass layoffs at the plant in St. Petersburg.

Last June, St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov announced that production at Toyota’s car plants, as well as Nissan and Hyundai (which suspended work around the same time) in St. Petersburg, would be resumed as soon as supplies of components and equipment were restored.
