It is believed that dogs and cats do not get along well with each other – however, with competent owners, they can live in love and harmony, if you follow a few rules, writes the mosregtoday.ru portal.

As the cynologist Anna Chernets told the publication, hunting for cats in dogs is due to instinct. If earlier the dog lived in a pack on the street, then taking it to the house where the cat lives is very dangerous. However, if a dog has lived with people since childhood, is well socialized and gets along with other dogs, then the chance to make friends with a cat is considerable.

If there is already a cat in the house, then either a puppy or a dog with an appropriate reputation can be taken as a second pet. The shelter will tell you how their wards get along with others. But in any case, it is important to organize a personal space for both animals: if the trays and bowls are too close, this can lead to conflicts. Plus, the dog should have its own place to rest, and the cat should have its own – high and safe.

In addition, it is important to give animals lots of attention and treats when they are in the same room. Competition for affection or resources should not be allowed. The first meeting is also very important. To begin with, let them stay in different rooms, calm down and get used to each other for a couple of days.

During conflicts, the dog handler recommends to behave delicately, but firmly. If the dog snarled at the cat, you should not shout at it, pull it away or beat it: you should firmly and persistently repeat the commands. At the same time, it is extremely important never to scold a cat in front of a dog: the latter are sensitive to such things and can attack the cat in order to “support” the owner.

The expert noted that even friendly dogs can cause severe stress in cats. If the cat refuses food and becomes lethargic, then the neighborhood is not good for her.
