The murder of Nathaly López, the administrative director of the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital, IESS, must shake the entire Ecuadorian society. He is another victim of violence, yes, but there is a trace of suspicion behind his death. Letting this case go unpunished would be a double crime.

After the murder, from the night of March 28 to yesterday morning, at least six officials with the rank of chief in the Nursing Home resigned, and it is known that the other resignations are in progress. Messages and calls with death threats to those who implemented administrative changes together with the victim raise alarm, but also powerlessness.

In the case of the administrative director, there are no reports of intimidation or threats in the Prosecutor’s Office, there are for other managers. The general manager of this health center, Francisco Pérez, also experienced a kidnapping attempt more than a month ago. Why so many attacks and threats against the officials of the same entity?

A month later, two directors of the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital from the IESS suffered violent attacks

The current administrative team of Teodoro Maldonado Carbo Hospital implemented changes in contracting processes, tracked and even blocked some sources of corruption. He called press conferences and made media visits to explain the work in progress and his purpose to make recruitment transparent and offer better service to affiliates and retirees. With documents in hand, he reviewed progress in the supply of medicines and projects to continue on that path.

The prosecutor’s office has four applications for threats and intimidation, all of which relate to the contract for cleaning the Teodoro Maldonado Carbo hospital

The fact that a person who fought against shady processes in public institutions was killed leaves a bitter disappointment. Is it sought with fear to kill the hope of officials who offer the privilege of service and not their own benefit? Society cannot be indifferent to these facts, the authorities must shed light on the events, and the law must punish them, that’s the only way this death will not be another one and young people who dare to work for an honest state will not give up.
