Unidentified people send out emails on behalf of the Russian Federal Tax Service and offer to download a supposedly new agency application for Android users. This was reported by the press service of the Federal Tax Service.
The department said that such letters say that through this “application” you can pay taxes, see if a tax deduction is available, etc. The letter contains a link to a file hosting service from where it can be downloaded, while the lack of an application in the Play Market is explained by “ geopolitical situation. The application is malware that steals text messages from victims.
As noted in the Federal Tax Service, if the user installs and launches this application, he will be asked to provide his phone number and bank card number, as well as click the “check” button. As soon as he performs these actions, his card data and SMS on the phone will be sent to the attackers.
They also added that they do not send such letters, and urged not to open suspicious letters and not to click on links.
