The Canadian leadership in 2023 will provide Ukraine with a loan in the amount of 2.4 billion Canadian dollars ($1.78 billion) through the International Monetary Fund. The funds were included in the draft federal budget of the country for the next financial year.
As stated in the draft budget, financial assistance to Kyiv includes: “loans to the government of Ukraine in the amount of $2.45 billion to provide basic services to Ukrainians <…>. Creation of an IMF-managed account for Ukraine, which has already received more than $3.8 billion in financial assistance from Canada and international partners.”
The document specifies that 115 million Canadian dollars (about $84.5 million) will be allocated to Kyiv for the repair of the city’s energy infrastructure. The federal budget also states that Canada plans to allocate 200 million Canadian dollars (about $147 million) in 2023 to transfer military equipment to Ukraine, including eight Leopard 2 battle tanks.
