International Olympic Committee (IOC) demands for Russians to return to international competition are “unacceptable,” the Russian Olympic Committee said in a statement.
According to a published statement by the ROC, the ban on the participation of Russians in team competitions is “not just discrimination against athletes by passport, but also by the disciplines they represent.” According to the committee, this approach “contradicts the Olympic Charter, the UN Charter, humanitarian, civil and any generally accepted norms.”
The position of the IOC on the non-admission to international competitions of those athletes who are listed in the military and law enforcement agencies “or have contact with them” lays the foundation for internal conflict in Russian sports, the committee added. According to the ROC, the IOC is trying to “damage the Russian sports industry.”
Recall that the day before, the IOC Executive Committee issued recommendations to international federations and organizers of international sports competitions, according to which athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports should act only as individual athletes, and teams of athletes with Russian or Belarusian passports cannot be considered for participation in competitions.
