The authorities of the Stavropol Territory will provide local farmers with preparations for the fight against rodents by the end of the week, said the Minister of Agriculture of the region Sergey Izmalkov. It is reported by Interfax.
“The beginning of this year was accompanied by an abnormal increase in the number of mouse-like rodents, which are still being fought. To date, we have partially begun issuing “chemistry” for the fight against rodents, by the end of this week we will provide the necessary goods to all agricultural producers throughout the region,” said Izmalkov.
According to him, more than 2 million hectares of land have been processed, now about 1 million hectares need to be processed additionally.
Earlier it was reported that it was because of the invasion of rodents that farmers began to use poison in large quantities, because of which other animals and birds began to die en masse. The first data about this appeared in December 2022, when the Stavropol Ministry of Natural Resources confirmed the death of animals due to chemicals in 14 districts.
In January, February and March 2023, the situation repeated itself in several more counties, the cause of death was also poison from rodents. Because of this, a ban on spring recreational and sport hunting was introduced in the region to preserve rare and endangered bird species.
