Governor of Esmeraldas and leaders of rural communities agree to truce to block roads

The official suggested that the seven mayors of Esmeraldas have the municipal machinery and repair the neighborhood roads in their cantons.

A two-day truce requested the governor of Esmeraldas, Tania Obando, due to the strike that the rural communities of Muisne, south of the province of Esmeraldas, have maintained since this week.

The official asked the same to the parishes of the coastal strip of Atacames, which since the morning of this Wednesday joined the protest on the Tonchigüe bridge.

The representative of the Executive proposed that the seven mayors of Esmeraldas have the municipal machinery and repair the affected neighborhood roads in their cantons. The poor condition of these roads has been the main motivation for the protests in the aforementioned towns.

The announced intervention will be carried out with the support of the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP), Petroecuador and the National Council of Rural Parish Governments of Ecuador (Conagopare).

Iver Quiñónez, president of the Conagopare, said that two weeks ago he proposed the minga of the meeting to attend the 57 parish meetings.

The truce would be until this Friday, based on the conversations between Tania Obando and Pablo Velasco, commander of Subzone 8, with the communities of Muisne, in the La Y del Salto sector, on Wednesday night.

Ana Ulloa, president of the Quingue parish, maintained that the claim is unanimous with the request for roads, health and education.

Response that they expected in the territory of the prefect Roberta Zambrano and that led to the closure of roads since the previous Monday.

Until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the E-15 highway, in the south of Tonchigüe, Y del Salto, Galera, Puerto Nuevo and Mompiche remained closed.

The suspension of the protest occurs within the framework of the weekend holiday for the celebration of the 174 years of the founding of the province of Esmeraldas and the 30 years of the cantonization of Atacames. (I)
