The Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia advocates that the police receive information about mentally ill Russians, Irina Rebrina, deputy head of the main department of the State Prosecutor’s Office for Supervision of the Execution of Federal Legislation, told reporters.
According to TASS, Rebrina stressed that this is not about interfering in the treatment of such people, but about “looking after” them, which implies obtaining information from close relatives and neighbors. “How do they live, what is going on in their heads, so that, God forbid, not to harm our children,” the representative of the prosecutor’s office explained.
She also added that the department had already applied to the legal commission on the protection of the rights of minors in October about this after another check on sexual violence against children.
As Vedomosti recalls, in December last year, the Ministry of Health changed the procedure for monitoring people with chronic mental disorders. The order of the department stipulated the cooperation of a psychiatrist with the police to “prevent socially dangerous actions.”
