In the last few decades, there has been a drying up of the Tigris and Euphrates river system, flowing through the lands of present-day Iraq and Syria, to the Persian Gulf. It is reported by Gismeteo.

For thousands of years, both rivers guaranteed the development of peasant communities and large cities in Mesopotamia. The year before last, government experts predicted that it would dry up completely in the next twenty years if humanity did not stop climate change.

With the help of NASA satellites in 2013, images of the Tigris and Euphrates basins were obtained. According to them, in 2003-2013. rivers lost 144 cubic meters. km of fresh water.

According to hydrologist Jay Famiglietti, the rivers became shallow especially quickly after the dry season in 2007. At the same time, the region requires more and more fresh water, and water resources are not managed in a coordinated manner due to differences in legal interpretations.

In the event of a complete collapse, the region will suffer a real catastrophe that will affect not only Iraq and Syria, but also Turkey.
