Russian businessman Artem Uss, who is the son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Alexander Uss and detained in Italy on an international warrant, left the place where he was under house arrest. According to TASS with reference to the ANSA agency, law enforcement officers are busy looking for him.

It is reported that the detainee violated the conditions of detention under house arrest in a rented apartment in Milan by arbitrarily removing the electronic location control bracelet.

On March 21, a court in Milan decided to extradite Uss to the United States, where he is accused of evading sanctions and money laundering. According to one of his lawyers, the extradition was approved on two of the four counts. An appeal is now pending before the Italian Court of Cassation. Uss was detained on October 17 last year at Milan Malpensa Airport.

The Russian court also put Uss on the international wanted list as part of a criminal case on money laundering on an especially large scale, Russia demanded his extradition. Earlier, Uss himself did not give an agreement on expulsion to the United States, but agreed to extradition to the Russian Federation.

The final decision on extradition is made by the Minister of Justice. Sometimes the decision may not coincide with the verdict of the court. The Russian’s lawyers suggest that the US interest is dictated by the fact that Uss is the son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. As suggested by a source familiar with the case, subsequently the American side may try to use Uss in the exchange of prisoners with the Russian Federation.
