Symptoms of anthrax appeared in the third inhabitant of Chuvashia. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Ministry of Health of the region.
According to the Ministry of Health, a purple-violet spot appeared on the patient’s ear, “with serous-hemorrhagic discharge.” These symptoms, according to the agency, are indicative of anthrax infection.
On March 15, the head of Chuvashia, Oleg Nikolaev, announced that two people had been hospitalized with anthrax in the Tsivilsky municipal district of the republic. According to him, the doctors assessed their condition as a condition of moderate severity, but nothing threatens the lives of the sick. The next day, quarantine was introduced in the village of Staroe Aktashevo.
Anthrax is a dangerous infectious disease that can infect both animals and humans. The disease is characterized by intoxication, the development of inflammation of the skin, lymph nodes and internal organs, the appearance of carbuncles on the skin.
Without treatment, about 20% of skin infections progress to toxic poisoning of the body (toxemia) and death.
The Rosselkhoznadzor of Chuvashia suggested that the probable cause of the anthrax outbreak was the illegal slaughter of an illegally purchased animal – a bull that was not registered with the veterinary service. The animal was fed with grain of unknown origin, it was not vaccinated against anthrax.
The regional Ministry of Health also reported that work is underway in the region to purchase an anthrax vaccine for routine vaccination of people whose work is associated with an increased risk of infection.
