Cats are popular pets and, compared to many others, are quite unpretentious in keeping, but sometimes the owners still face problems. One of these possible problems is the unwillingness of the cat to cope with the natural needs of the tray.

According to Finnish researchers, there is always a reason for such actions of a cat – and if you find it, you can teach a cat to do its business where it is necessary, the naked-science.ru portal writes.

In particular, the cause of irregular urination, after which the cat leaves wet footprints throughout the house, may be a urinary tract infection. So the first thing to do if the pet walks past the tray is to take him to the veterinarian.

If everything is in order with health, it is worth taking a closer look at whether the cat is experiencing stress. The presence of other animals in the house, boredom or, on the contrary, excessive activity of the owners can negatively affect her mental state, forcing her to urinate where necessary.

In addition, the cat may not be satisfied with the filler in the tray or the tray itself: from her point of view, it may smell wrong, create discomfort for her, or be located in an inconvenient place for her. And cured cats may associate pain when urinating with the place where they did it, after which the owner can only completely replace the tray or even rearrange it to another place in the house.

Finally, the behavior of cats is strongly influenced by their reproductive status. In non-neutered and non-neutered cats, marking behavior, including urine spraying, is much more common. Although breeders note that to one degree or another, all cats mark the place in which they live.

After studying the data of 4,000 cats, Finnish scientists came to the conclusion that shy cats mostly have problems with the litter box: they are more likely than others to dirty the area outside the litter box or scatter litter. The most trouble-free were sociable, properly socialized animals that were spayed at the age of four months. And of the 26 breeds studied, the owners of Siberian and Neva masquerade cats complained least of all about problems with the tray.
