After the earthquakes in southeastern Turkey that killed nearly 50,000 people, Turkish hotels and catering businesses need to be issued earthquake resistance certificates as this will help build the trust of tourists, Firuz Baglıkaya, president of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), said.
According to the Hürriyet edition, Baglykaya stressed that earlier “interlocutors abroad” asked “are there any new directions”, and now “they are asking about the earthquake”. According to his forecasts, tour operators will request information about the seismic resistance of hotels. “Hotels must be certified so that we can inspire confidence,” Baglykaya emphasized.
He also suggested that the Ministry of Culture and Tourism should be in charge of issuing such certificates, and many agencies in the tourism sector are already waiting for the plan on the initiative.
Recall that in early February, a series of earthquakes with a magnitude of up to 7.7 occurred in Turkey and Syria, followed by a series of weaker tremors. More than 48 thousand people died in Turkey, 6.6 thousand of them were foreigners.
