Ukraine will have only one attempt to launch a major counter-offensive this year, because if it fails, it will be extremely difficult for the West to find the resources for a second attempt, Czech President Petr Pavel said in an interview with Rzeczpospolita.
According to him, “after next winter it will be extremely difficult to maintain the current level of assistance.” War fatigue is “not only the depletion of human resources and equipment, the destruction of infrastructure in Ukraine, but also fatigue in the countries that provide assistance,” Pavel explained.
The Czech President also noted that the counteroffensive should begin in the coming months and a number of countries expect progress in the conflict. At the same time, he stressed that the US presidential elections are scheduled for November next year, and therefore “one should be realistic” and take into account that the attention of politicians will be focused on domestic problems and US relations with China.
“America’s interest in Ukraine and the level of assistance may decrease next year. And when America’s interest falls, many European countries will do the same, ”the Czech president suggested.
