Moscow is ready to negotiate with Kiev, as long as the existing “geopolitical realities” are taken into account, President Vladimir Putin said in an article for the Chinese edition of the People’s Daily “Russia and China are a partnership looking to the future.” The article was published on the Kremlin website.
“Russia is open to a politico-diplomatic settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. <…> The future of the peace process depends solely on the readiness for a serious conversation, taking into account the prevailing geopolitical realities,” the head of state emphasized.
At the same time, Putin noted that the “ultimatums” that come to Russia “speak only of isolation from such realities” and that Kyiv “does not want to look for a way out of the current situation.” The Russian leader also recalled that the earlier talks about a year ago “were not terminated by us.”
In addition, Putin expressed gratitude to the Chinese authorities “for a balanced line” about Ukraine, “for understanding the background and real reasons” and readiness to help in a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
