Sleep is very important for a person, but few people fully realize how serious a test for the body is lack of sleep. As Elena Tsareva, a somnologist, neurologist, candidate of medical sciences, told the Moscow 24 TV channel, if lack of sleep becomes chronic, this can lead, first of all, to a deterioration in human cognitive functions. The person will become more inattentive, stop remembering important things and think clearly.

The doctor added that with lack of sleep, immunity can also suffer. “The next day after a sleepless night, the probability of getting sick if someone sneezes nearby increases by 20-30%,” the somnologist emphasized.

According to Tsareva, due to sleep disturbances, the stress system is activated and people’s appetite increases. And this entails already obesity, heart disease, the risk of developing diabetes.

To get rid of insomnia, you first need to understand the cause. For example, anxiety conditions, lack of exercise in life, daytime sleep, and more can affect sound sleep at night. Then you should choose your sleep rate.

“The fact that an adult should sleep eight hours a day is a myth,” said Tsareva. For example, the sleep rate of an 18-year-old and a 60-year-old person are very different. Exactly the same as for an IT specialist who is at the computer all day or, for example, an athlete, the expert concluded.
