Cranberry is an effective means of preventing stroke, a life-threatening condition caused by impaired blood circulation to the brain as a result of thrombosis or rupture of a blood vessel. This, according to MedikForum, was stated by a rehabilitation doctor, rector of the Institute of Traditional Health Systems Sergey Agapkin.

According to him, regular consumption of this berry helps to reduce the risk of stroke by 10-17%.

Another Russian specialist, Doctor of Medical Sciences Anatoly Skalny, also spoke about the significant benefits of cranberries present in the diet. He pointed out that the important benefits of the berry are high doses of manganese and copper.

Manganese, which is so rich in cranberries, ensures good vascular health: its deficiency is associated with high cholesterol, the appearance of atherosclerotic plaques. Another trace element of the berry – copper – is responsible for the suppression of inflammatory processes.

“Cranberries also contain anthocyanin pigments, which are responsible for the vibrant color of the berries. They reduce inflammation of the walls of blood vessels and stabilize blood pressure,” Agapkin added.

Experts advised when buying to choose small, albeit not very attractive in appearance, berries – it is in them that a high concentration of substances that heal blood vessels and prevent stroke is accumulated.
