Police said one eyewitness said he saw fire and smoke coming from the side of the mountain, while others spoke of loud explosions. There have also been dozens of reports of false fire alarms.
Hong Kong’s largest energy corporation, CLP Power, which supplies Kowloon and the New Territories, said its high-voltage system had recorded several voltage dips. The representative of the corporation said that the supply of electricity during this period was not interrupted, and some electrical installations that are sensitive to voltage drops, including elevators, could be turned off due to the operation of protective mechanisms. The company apologized for the inconvenience and clarified that engineering personnel are investigating the cause of the incident.
