For the mobilization of birds, products and by-products of avian origin in Ecuador, cargo owners must have an appropriate mobilization guide, in accordance with the provisions of the Organic Law on Agricultural Health.

The Agency for Phyto and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control (Agrocalidad) reminded of this in a press release this Thursday, March 16 afternoon.

Slaughter of 8% of the laying population due to bird flu affects up to 28% more on the price of eggs

This is due to the declaration of a state of emergency regarding animal health issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock on November 29, through Ministerial Agreement 134 for the outbreak of bird flu that has occurred since that date in the provinces of Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Bolívar, Pichincha and Azuay, which so far, according to official data, it has caused the sacrifice of 1’200,000 birds, which represents 8% of breeding birds in the entire country.

The sector is also in the middle of the first phase of vaccination of birds against bird flu which started on 3 March and which is expected to vaccinate more than 700,000 birds in this first period.

Meanwhile, the Agency reported that since November it has conducted 350 road operations across the country and issued approximately 125,000 bird movement guides and 17,000 bird product and by-product approvals.

With 662,850 vaccinated birds, the first eight days of avian flu vaccination are over

“The agency checks the origin and destination of eggs and other bird products by controlling the movement guide. In the absence of the necessary justifications or the determination of any anomaly or irregularity, the product will be withheld,” said Agrocalidad, which also called on the poultry sector to comply with the provisions of current legislation.
