In 2022, the prosecutor’s office received 232 thousand complaints from the Russians about the work of the housing and communal services — 1.5 times more than in 2021. According to RBC, this was announced at the extended board of the Prosecutor General’s Office by the head of the department, Igor Krasnov.
“People are outraged by the quality and cost of the services provided, the poor performance of management companies. I know firsthand the content of all these claims,” the Prosecutor General said. Krasnov also suggested that in some regions of the country, management companies and local authorities “were too free to interpret the government’s decision to increase tariffs for housing and communal services.”
“I demand to quickly stop the facts of overcharging and consumption standards, imposing expenses on citizens that are not directly related to the activities of management companies. Seek recalculation and return to people of unreasonably received funds,” he said.
In January, President Vladimir Putin announced a program for the modernization of housing and communal services for 2023. The government has prepared a program for the modernization of housing and communal services with the provision of funding on behalf of Putin, which he gave in July last year. It stated that the modernization program was necessary to “reduce the share of public infrastructure with a high degree of deterioration in all regions of the Russian Federation.”
