State Duma deputies adopted in the third reading a bill on punishment for discrediting participants in the military operation in Ukraine, Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the lower house of parliament, said on his Telegram channel.
According to him, “everyone who today, risking their lives, ensures the security of the country and citizens” are protected “from provocations and lies.”
Amendments approved by deputies are made to the Code of Administrative Offenses, as well as to the Criminal Code. In accordance with them punishment for hours.1 Article. 207.3 (dissemination of deliberately false information about the use of armed forces in order to protect the interests of the country) and Part 1 of Art. 280.3 of the Criminal Code (discrediting the armed forces and discrediting the exercise by Russian state bodies of their powers abroad) is increased from three to five years. Punishment under Part 2 of Art. 280.3 of the Criminal Code (repeated discredit that caused dangerous consequences) will increase from five to seven years in prison. The maximum term of imprisonment under these articles is up to 15 years, and fines are up to 5 million rubles.
Art. 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses on discrediting the army will be supplemented with liability for discrediting volunteer formations, organizations or individuals who perform tasks for the Armed Forces. Fines are up to 50 thousand rubles. for citizens and up to 500 thousand rubles. for legal entities.
