The volume of military aid to Ukraine is linked to the results of alleged negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, former US President Donald Trump told Fox News. He expressed this opinion as part of a survey of possible candidates for the presidency from the Republican Party on the topic of military assistance to Ukraine.
Answering a Fox News question about the US role in the conflict in Ukraine, Trump recalled the position he held during his presidency: in his opinion, Europe itself should pay more for its security. Europeans should help Ukraine more than the United States, at least equally, Trump said, adding that America has no “strategic interest” in this conflict. According to Trump, “the goal is to help Europe and secure it, but Europe does not help itself yourself.”
When Trump was asked how much assistance he was ready to provide to Ukraine, the ex-president replied that it would depend on the outcome of his negotiations with Vladimir Putin.
Recall that during his presidential term, Donald Trump called on European countries to increase military spending and stop relying on US military power. He also repeatedly resented the fact that Europe receives preferences from trade with Moscow, supplies it with money, and expects military protection from Washington.
