Over the past year, the number of applications for warranty repairs of household appliances has increased in Russia, market participants explain this situation by the departure of high-quality foreign manufacturers and an increase in the share of Russian and Chinese goods, Kommersant writes.
As a source in one of the manufacturing companies told the publication, since the start of the military operation in Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions against the Russian Federation, the number of applications for guarantees from buyers of Russian household appliances has increased by 20%. Another interlocutor from an electronics supplier noted that Russian manufacturers are striving to increase the output of goods and at the same time reduce their cost, which affects the deterioration in quality. Basically, this trend is noticeable in the segment of small household appliances of a low price category. The source named among such brands Redmond, Scarlett. Kitfort and others, this information was also confirmed to the publication by several large companies.
In particular, Alexey Pogudalov, commercial director of the Holodilnik.ru marketplace, said that the number of breakdowns and defects in Russian and Chinese companies is “slightly higher than in premium European and American equipment,” and therefore the number of warranty cases could actually increase. According to him, over the past years, consumers have become accustomed to better quality, but “over time, you will have to get used to the current reality, so the number of warranty cases will decrease.”
At the same time, Citilink said that last year the proportion of requests for warranty repairs was “stable and in line with the previous period.” According to the retailer, the most frequently returned goods under warranty are multicookers, meat grinders, steam generators, and vacuum cleaners.
A similar statement was made in M.Video-Eldorado. According to the company’s calculations, the ratio of requests related to marriage and the total number of vehicles remained at the level of 2019-2021.
