This is the approved calendar for the return to compulsory and progressive face-to-face classes in Ecuador

The return to classes is based on the advance of vaccination in Ecuador, they expect to reach 85% of immunized until the end of the year, according to official information.

After an evaluation of the technical tables of health and education of the National Emergency Operations Committee, the students of Ecuador will return in person and progressively to the classrooms starting next Monday, November 22.

The return to classes was requested by the Ministry of Education and is based on the progress of vaccination against the coronavirus in Ecuador, where a total of 10.3 million people have been fully immunized against covid-19, out of a target population ( over 5 years) of 16 million, according to official data.

The class schedule includes three phases for the complete return to presence:

  • November 22th: Technical and rural baccalaureate (15 to 17 years old)
  • 6th of December: Rest of high school, 8th, 9th and 10th (12 to 17 years old)
  • January 17, 2022: Elementary basic education (6 to 12 years)

  • Schools and colleges must have basic services, signage and temporary isolation spaces.
  • The use of masks will also be mandatory.
  • Maintain a protocol of ventilated, disinfected spaces and, as far as possible, with distance.
  • The protocol proposes flexible assistance so that the establishments distribute the hours of recess and common space in staggered hours. This must also apply for the entry and exit of students.
  • The use of uniforms will not be forced.
  • Do not demand the purchase of new materials.

Guidelines

  • In the Fiscal educational centers will only have a face-to-face or distance systemTherefore, there will be no hybrid modality (face-to-face modality combined with virtual), for which the students who do not wish to attend must request their transfer to an institution that has a distance modality.
  • The Sierra y Amazonia school year will take place in two five-month periods; the first began on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 and will end on Tuesday, February 1, 2022; and the second from Monday, February 7, 2022 and ends on Friday, July 1, 2022.
  • In the Costa and Galapagos regime, the school year will be developed in two quimestres; the first started on May 7, 2021 and ended on September 29; and the second began on Monday, October 4, 2021 and will end on Friday, March 4, 2022. (I)
