The head of the General Commissariat of Police of Moldova, Viorel Cernautsanu, stated that the Russian special services were involved in preparing actions to destabilize the situation during mass opposition demonstrations in Moldova. It is reported by TASS.

“The police have received operational data on the preparation by the special services of the Russian Federation of actions to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova, which were planned during the protests of the opposition, including today’s,” Cernautanu said at a briefing before the rally, which was announced by the opposition Shor Party, as well as some extra-parliamentary parties and movements.

As he believes, 10 groups of 5 to 10 people were formed in Moldova, who had to undergo special training. Their activities were allegedly coordinated by a person who arrived from the Russian Federation. Cernautanu also claims that 25 alleged participants were brought to the police, 7 people were then detained and are cooperating with the investigation.

Earlier, the leaders of the Shor party assured that the action would be peaceful. However, on Saturday, the party accused the police of intimidating its activists. They reported that members of the same party in almost every region of the country received calls threatening to open a criminal case. This week the police carried out another large-scale searches in the party cells, confiscating large sums of money.

For more than a year, Moldova has been under a state of emergency, which was introduced with the start of a special military operation in Ukraine. During this period, all mass events were banned, and opposition TV channels were closed. Nevertheless, the Moldovan opposition has been holding rallies almost weekly since last summer. Periodically during these actions there are clashes with the police, who are trying to block the movement of the column through the city center.

The demonstrators accuse the authorities of being unable to cope with rising prices, a record inflation over the past 20 years, which amounted to 30% in 2022, and are also criticized for confrontation with Russia and militarization. During the rallies, slogans are heard calling for the dissolution of parliament and the resignation of President Maia Sandu.
