North Korean leader Kim Jong-un held the fifth expanded meeting of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea of the eighth convocation. It is reported by RBC with reference to the Central Telegraph Agency of the DPRK.
The meeting determined the tasks of the People’s Army, which it must fulfill for the “flourishing of the countryside” and local construction, as well as measures to more effectively use the “war deterrence forces” in response to the “intrigues” of the United States and South Korea. The DPRK believes that the countries want to “unleash a new war,” and their provocations “reach the extreme limit from hour to hour.”
In February, after North Korea launched its Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile without warning, the US and South Korea began military exercises in the Sea of Japan. The Allies agreed to continue training in March.
North Korea warned that possible maneuvers in the area of the Korean Peninsula would be perceived as “preparation for an aggressive war.” The country’s Foreign Ministry said that the United States and South Korea “are exacerbating the situation to an extremely dangerous limit by demonstrative war games.”
