The mayor of the city of Sretensk in the Trans-Baikal Territory, Yevgeny Kirgizov, while drunk, attacked police officers with an ax. It is reported by RBC with reference to the regional department of the Investigative Committee.
The department reported that on the evening of March 10, police officers stopped a car driven by a drunken Kirgizov. “In order to obstruct the legitimate demands of the police, the head of the urban settlement tried to hit the employees with an ax. One of the police officers neutralized the suspect by snatching an ax from his hands, ”the UK said.
In addition, during the arrest, a pistol was confiscated from the head of the city, writes Chita.ru.
A criminal case was opened against Kirgizov under Part 1 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code (threat of violence against a representative of power in connection with the performance of his official duties), he faces up to five years in prison.
Kirgizov became mayor of Sretensk in March 2022. By that time, he had already been convicted under the articles “Hooliganism”, “Deliberate destruction or damage to property”, “Use of violence against a representative of the authorities,” the portal notes.
On the day of his arrest, according to him, Kirgizov got into an accident in a state of intoxication and fled the scene of the accident. A source familiar with the situation told the portal that it was a head-on collision. According to him, the injured local resident contacted the police and told about the incident. Employees of the department toured the city yards and found in one of them the culprit of the accident. When they tried to detain the mayor, he got out of the car, took an ax out of the trunk and began to threaten law enforcement officers, the source told Chita.ru.
At least three reports of administrative offenses were drawn up against the mayor – on driving while intoxicated, on leaving the scene of an accident and resisting police officers.
