Lawyer for Abraham Muñoz, from the Actemra case, confirms that his client is one of the deceased from the Penitentiary

“Good morning, I confirm the death of Abraham Muñoz.” With that message, the lawyer for Daniel Salcedo’s personal trainer, convicted of organized crime in the case of the sale of the drug Actemra during the pandemic, confirmed this morning the identification of his body in the morgue. His client is one of the 62 who died in the brawl that occurred over the weekend at the Litoral Penitentiary.

Muñoz was not in any of the 12 pavilions of that prison, but in the so-called transitional block, where, according to relatives of other deceased, “it is paid to be there, so that they are not mixed with the most dangerous” in the middle of the prison crisis in Ecuador.

But that block, where the inmates do not represent the greatest danger according to the crimes committed, was precisely the one most attacked by inmates from three other wards. There they killed 46 inmates, the rest of the victims were from ward 2.

On Monday, as part of the measures adopted by the State, a thousand uniformed men, 500 from the National Police and 500 from the Armed Forces of Ecuador, entered the Guayas Center for the Deprivation of Liberty No. 1 early with the purpose of assuming the control of the facilities indefinitely.

President Guillermo Lasso announced that he himself will assume the national coordination of the forces of order and, in addition, that citizen security becomes the number one priority of the presidential office. This after weekend massacre in the Litoral Penitentiary.

Through a bill will be carried out a restructuring and coordination of all public entities related to the social rehabilitation system. In addition, the president announced that regulations for the progressive use of force will be approved.

The president stated that the situation in the prisons was produced by many years of neglect and abandonment of democratic values. “Nobody wants to turn this into a political issue. But neither can we blind ourselves to the fact that today we are experiencing precisely the consequences of the politicization and corruption of citizen security. Deliberately handed over territories to criminal gangs so that they operate with impunity ”.

With a call for all State institutions to support the initiatives, Lasso anticipated that states of emergency will be decreed in the country’s prisons “as many times as necessary.”

On the other hand, the Government has achieved international support from the United States, Israel, Colombia, United Kingdom, Spain. “They have already communicated their firm willingness to support us in the fight against this threat, ”Lasso said.
