The lecturer only proves the extreme politicization of Vladimir Nabokov, which Nabokov concealed with all his might, skillfully pretending to be an apolitical aesthete. The author suggests that Nabokov was so politicized that he provided services to British intelligence. Based on the material of Nabokov’s letter to Alfred Hitchcock, the lecturer concludes that Nabokov is interested in the “grassroots” genres, in general, in the cinema of Alfred Hitchcock, in particular.
It was this interest that allowed Nabokov once to lift the veil of secrecy over his undercover activities. In the title of the English version of his memoirs, he quoted the ending of Hitchcock’s famous spy thriller The 39 Steps.
