Russia is sending Iran some of the US and NATO weapons seized during a special operation in Ukraine, CNN reports, citing four people familiar with the matter.
According to the channel, over the past year, Russia has managed to seize a lot of Western weapons in Ukraine, including armored vehicles, anti-tank and anti-aircraft missile systems. Its samples are sent to Iran to be studied and copied, the sources say. In particular, an employee of the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) told the TV channel that in the past, Iran has already demonstrated the ability to reverse-engineer American weapons. “They redesigned the TOW anti-tank guided missile, creating an almost perfect copy, which they called Toophan,” he stressed.
Recall that after the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Western countries accused Tehran of transferring weapons to Moscow, including kamikaze drones. In October last year, the European Union imposed sanctions against the Iranian company Shahed Aviation Industries, which produces drones. The Kremlin denied information about the supply of drones. Iran claimed that cooperation between Tehran and Moscow was not directed against Kyiv.
