In Bashkortostan, a resident of the city of Sibay set fire to a relay cabinet at 109 km of the Sibay-Almukhametovo railway line, RBC reports citing a source in the regional head office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as a source familiar with the audit materials.
The fire on the evening of March 9 was noticed by the foreman of the railway tracks, who called the dispatcher. Subsequently, the FSB, the police, the transport prosecutor’s office, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the RF Investigative Committee were notified about the incident. The police and the FSB launched an investigation and suspected a 22-year-old resident of Sibay of setting fire to the relay cabinet. According to investigators, on March 7, a young man bought two liters of kerosene in a household goods store. Two days later, in the evening, he went to the relay cabinet on the haul, unbent the upper part of the door with a crowbar, and poured kerosene inside. There the man placed a plastic bottle. Then he set fire to the closet “in order to stop Russia’s special operation in Ukraine,” according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The man had no previous convictions. The movement of trains in the area where the arson occurred was not disturbed. The amount of damage from the actions of the attacker has not yet been determined.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs is checking the fact of the incident, the issue of initiating a criminal case under the article on bringing vehicles or means of communication into disrepair and on choosing a measure of restraint is being decided. Under this article, a man can face up to one year in prison.
