The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences denied Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the opportunity to speak at the Oscars for the second time in a row, Variety magazine writes, citing sources.
According to the interlocutor of the publication, the representative of the Hollywood agency to work with actors William Morris Endeavor (WME) Mike Simpson turned to the film academy with a request to give Zelensky time for a video message, but he was refused. The reasons for the refusal are not specified.
The 95th Academy Awards will take place on March 13.
Recall that last year the Ukrainian leader was also not allowed to speak at the Oscars. Then the organizers could not come to a common decision whether Zelensky should be given the floor and whether the prize should interfere in politics. According to Variety, the producer of the award, Will Packer, refused to speak with the President of Ukraine, explaining that “Hollywood pays attention to Ukraine only because the injured party is white.” According to him, Hollywood ignores military conflicts around the world if they affect people of a different skin color.
