Among the best business sectors for building a career for women are art and culture, telecommunications and communications, media, marketing, advertising, BTL, PR, design, and production. This is stated in the study hh.ru, which leads “Kommersant”.
According to the study, there are also more career opportunities in heavy engineering, metallurgy and forestry. The best chances for quick employment and high salaries for women are in medicine and pharmaceuticals, public services, arts and culture, and educational institutions.
At the same time, as follows from the statistics, since 2013 the position of women in the labor market of the Russian Federation could worsen: they began to receive fewer invitations to both highly paid positions and C-level management positions.
So, last year, the top 5 industries with the largest share of invitations to women included: medicine, pharmaceuticals, pharmacies (79%), public services, as well as art, culture (72% each), educational institutions (71%), social activities, parties, charity, NGOs (68%), consumer goods (non-food; 67%).
According to Maria Ignatova, head of research at hh.ru, in general, we can say that the labor market has been gradually approaching gender balance over the past ten years.
The gender factor no longer plays a significant role in hiring decisions, Artem Kumpel, Managing Director of the Avito Rabota platform, also believes. However, according to him, it is possible to identify areas and professions that women are usually more interested in. So, on the platform, at the end of 2022, most of the female resumes were recorded in accounting and finance (89% of the total), in education (84%), in administrative positions (81%), in medicine (78%) and the beauty industry. (77%). In the group of professions “personnel management”, the share of applicants’ resumes was 65%, the expert points out.
At the same time, despite the fact that in general the share of invitations to women has increased, managerial vacancies have become less accessible to them. Under those in the study are understood the positions of directors, chief accountant, head of the legal department.
According to the results of the study, men were more often invited to C-level management vacancies in 2022. Least of all invitations of women were recorded in the energy sector (23%), the extractive industry (25%) and the automotive business (32%). On average, over ten years, in those areas where the proportion of women is at least half, a positive trend was predominantly recorded, a decrease was noted only in services for the population (-5 p.p.).
In general, 16 industries showed a decrease in the percentage of women, growth was noted in 14 areas, which to some extent may indicate a movement towards leveling the situation.
