Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said the death toll from the February 6 earthquake in Turkey has exceeded 46,000. It is reported by TASS with reference to the TV channel TRT.

“We have lost 46,104 of our citizens as a result of earthquakes. Since the first earthquake on February 6, we – the government, all departments – have urgently mobilized,” he said following the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“The destruction was so great that in the first hours we did not manage to achieve the intensity of work that we expected. But we did not give up in the face of these difficulties and within a few hours we stepped up work at all levels, giving priority to rescue activities,” the president said. He noted that 230,000 buildings in the disaster regions can no longer be used.

According to Erdogan, more than 3 million people have been taken out of the disaster zone to other regions. Part of the population settled in villages and villages. He said that the authorities plan to expand the area of ​​container towns for those in need and within two months to build towns for another 100,000 containers as a temporary shelter for those who have lost their homes. Within a year, he promised to rebuild residential buildings for the population of the affected regions.
