Complete economic isolation of Russia from the countries of Europe is impossible, since Russia is the largest neighbor of the European Union. According to TASS with reference to the newspaper Der Standard, this was stated by the Minister for European and Foreign Affairs of Austria Alexander Schallenberg in an interview.
“There are voices in Europe who want a complete separation from Russia. We must be careful what we wish for. Russia will not disappear, but will remain the largest neighbor of the EU. Pretending that the country can be economically isolated like North Korea is a delusion. It is simply impossible,” the head of the Austrian foreign ministry stressed.
Earlier, Schallenberg stated that the European Union would need Russia after the end of the Ukrainian conflict to maintain a dialogue with it on security in Europe. He also announced Vienna’s readiness to become a platform for negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.
Schallenberg also noted that the position of Europe on the issue of sanctions against the Russian Federation does not find understanding among representatives of most states of the world.
“This is one of the central issues that should concern us this year. The point of view of Europe is not understood by most countries … We in Europe must be aware that the Russian narrative is successful in Africa. They say that the West is to blame for the rise in oil, gas and food prices around the world due to sanctions, ”Shallenberg said.
