In the dictionary of the Institute of the Russian Language named after V.V. Vinogradov RAS, the words “copter”, “post office” and “photo-video recording” were added. The relevant information was published on the spelling academic resource “Academos”.
According to RIA Novosti, a researcher at the Institute and editor-in-chief of the Gramota.ru portal, Vladimir Pakhomov, said that work to update the list of words is ongoing. “They select those words about which there are questions, how to use them correctly, how to write them correctly, and when they see that these words have “grown up”, let’s say, to being accepted into the academic spelling dictionary, they decide to include these words into the database,” he said.
At the same time, Pakhomov emphasized that the developers of Akademos monitor changes in the language, note which words appear, which words and with what frequency they use in the media and fiction, what words native speakers ask about. In particular, according to him, the term “post office” has been used for a long time, and the fact that it has not been in the dictionary until now – “it is obvious that it is not very good and great that it appeared.”
Pakhomov also clarified that about 200 words were added to the dictionary last year. At the same time, some of them are added with the mark “recommendation” – this means that it is desirable to write the word in a certain way, but it requires observation, since the practice of its use may change.
