The West is ready to provide certain security guarantees to Ukraine after the end of the conflict, but the time has not yet come for this. This statement was made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

He stressed that Western countries will not make decisions on the settlement of the conflict for Ukraine. At the same time, Scholz called the withdrawal of Russian troops the basis of the peace talks.

Recall that in December 2021, Moscow sent its draft treaty on security guarantees to the United States and NATO. The Russian side demanded not to expand the alliance to the east. In addition, the Russian Federation demanded to abandon the acceptance of the former republics of the USSR into the alliance and the deployment of military bases in the post-Soviet space. However, no agreement could be reached on this issue.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation in Ukraine.

After the conflict began, the Ukrainian authorities proposed their own draft security guarantees. The key guarantees in it were investments in the military-industrial complex of Ukraine, the transfer of intelligence data to it and the training of the armed forces of the republic under the auspices of the EU and NATO.
