Five lost foreigners were rescued in Chimborazo

One of the mountaineers was able to communicate with 911 and reported that they were trying to ascend to the second refuge of the volcano, but that they lost their way.

During the early hours of this Monday, five foreign mountaineers were rescued from the Chimborazo volcano by specialized personnel, after the ECU-911 reported the alert that they had lost their way.

It was reported that, around 02:00 on Monday, the personnel who traveled to attend the emergency made contact with three Italians (two 27-year-old men and a 28-year-old woman), an Argentine (39 years old) and an American (38 years).

The alert was received shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, so the ECU-911 of Riobamba coordinated with the articulated institutions in order to carry out the search and rescue of foreign mountaineers.

One of the mountaineers was able to communicate with 911 and reported that they were trying to ascend to the second refuge of the volcano, but that in that attempt they lost their way and deviated from the trail.

He indicated that they were in good health, but that they were physically exhausted and that for that reason they decided to ask for help.

ECU-911 reported that, after locating the tourists, they underwent a medical evaluation that revealed that they were in stable condition.

Given that, they received support to make a safe descent. Later they were taken to their lodging site, it was indicated. (I)
