The EU countries are ready to grant the status of a candidate for joining the union to Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing sources.
According to sources, the decision will be made at the summit of EU leaders on June 23-24.
According to the agency, in order to join the EU, the authorities of the candidate countries will have to fulfill a number of conditions. In particular, Kyiv will need to legislate the procedure for appointing judges to the Supreme Court, strengthen the fight against corruption, adopt laws to combat money laundering and oligarchy, eliminate media bias by bringing its legislation in this area in line with European standards, and complete legal reforms on rights of national minorities. The European Commission will closely monitor progress on all points and will present a report next year.
Recall that earlier the European Commission recommended to assign the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union to Ukraine and Moldova, and Georgia was asked to introduce the necessary reforms so that the EU could grant it the status of a candidate.
