More than a thousand police officers and around 3,000 soldiers have gone to the prison where there was another massacre last September.

After the massacre recorded between Friday night and early Saturday morning at the Litoral Penitentiary, in which 62 dead and at least 25 wounded have so far been recorded, the National Police together with the Armed Forces carry out an operation in the prison, located on the road to Daule.

Alexandra Vela, Minister of Government; Tannya Varela, general commander of the Police; representatives of the National Service for Comprehensive Attention to Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI), among other instances, participate in the intervention.

More than 1,000 uniformed police officers and around 3,000 soldiers have gone to the prison, where there was another massacre last September.

On that occasion, 118 prisoners were reported killed by the clashes that the authorities attribute to the dispute over territories between gangs allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

The operation includes the use of tanks. The intervention is planned, mainly, of pavilion 2 and the transitory area of ​​the Litoral Penitentiary, which were the scenes of the massacre this weekend.

Inmates from ward 3 attacked those from 2; while those deprived of liberty in pavilions 7, 8 and 9 they attacked the detainees in the transitional area, according to government authorities.

This fact has caused pain and indignation among the families of the mortal victims, who are even thinking of taking action against the State.

Although the incidents occurred at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, the response of the uniformed police officers was slow, according to them.

Some prisoners broadcast the attacks live and asked for help. Others, on the other hand, said goodbye to their relatives, warning that they would be killed.

For now, the technical studies are being carried out to be able to make the recognition of the corpses that arrived in more complex conditions. During the attack some inmates were cremated.

As of this Sunday, 34 of the 62 victims of the prison massacre had been identified. (I)
