The Historical and Toponymic Commission of Odessa recommended to rename the Suvorovsky and Malinovsky districts of the city. It is reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the Odessa City Council.

It is reported that the commission recommended to the deputies of the city council to rename the Suvorovsky district to Peresypsky, and Malinovsky to Khadzhibeysky.

Since the beginning of 2022, the Ukrainian authorities have been conducting a “de-Russification” campaign. As the Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko stated at the end of 2022, 7.6 thousand toponyms were renamed in the country during the year.

This campaign also affected Odessa. On November 30, the deputies of the Odessa City Council voted for the dismantling of the monuments to the founder of Odessa Catherine II and Alexander Suvorov (the monument to the commander was located in the Suvorov district). The city authorities decided to rename more than 200 streets whose names are associated with Russia, and the Odessa bakery announced that it would rename the Potemkinsky loaf to Hetmansky.

Alexander Suvorov (1730-1800) – Russian commander. He played an outstanding role in the liberation of the southwestern lands of the Russian Empire from the centuries-old Turkish yoke during the Russian-Turkish wars of the late 18th century (1768-1774, 1787-1791). Under his command, Russian troops in 1790 stormed the Turkish fortress of Izmail (now the Odessa region), which was considered impregnable.

Rodion Malinovsky (1898-1967) – a native of Odessa, a Soviet military leader, Marshal of the Soviet Union, twice Hero of the Soviet Union (1945, 1958). During the Great Patriotic War, he commanded the troops of the Southern, Southwestern, 3rd and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. In 1957-1967 he was the Minister of Defense of the USSR.
