Collective reports that activist is among the dead in Penitentiary massacre

The Yasunidos collective reported this Sunday that the activist Víctor Guayllas is among the fatalities of the riot registered in the Penitentiary, which caused 68 deaths and 25 injuries.

The group maintained that it confirmed the death of Guayllas through official sources. Guayllas was a defender of water and human rights.

He was sentenced for having participated in the national strike in October 2019. He was deprived of liberty for alleged sabotage. His sentence was not final and the appeal hearing was scheduled for January 2022.

The group pointed out that Guayllas was denied Habeas Corpus to guarantee his defense, despite the fact that he had a disability. The Assembly had requested his amnesty.

“Victor’s death will not go unpunished. We will do everything necessary so that there is truth, justice and reparation for what happened, “said the group, while holding this and the previous government responsible.

Although a list of the alleged deaths circulated on Saturday, the government spokesman said it was unofficial.

However, on that list appears Guayllas and other detainees such as Abraham M. and Víctor Ch., Former deputy director of the Medications area of ​​the Guasmo Sur Hospital, involved in the drug case. There is also José Luis R., from the Seguros Sucre case. Of these, their deaths have not been confirmed.

The Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (Conaie) also published a statement on its Twitter account confirming that the activist was among those killed in the Penitentiary.

According to the publication, the detainee in the 2019 national strike would have been the father of 11 children.
