The Primorsky Regional Court overturned the sentence to the deputy of the regional legislative assembly Artem Samsonov in the case of child molestation, RBC reports with reference to the press service of the court.
The press service reported that the criminal case was sent for a new trial. Samsonov was also given a preventive measure from detention to house arrest for a period of three months.
Samsonov is a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the former first secretary of the Vladivostok branch of the party. The case against him was opened in November 2021. The politician was accused of displaying a sex toy on a beach in 2018 to a group of adult vacationers, including an 11-year-old child. The investigation considered the incident as violent acts of a sexual nature using the helpless state of the victim, who had not reached the age of fourteen. In September 2022, the court found the deputy guilty and sentenced him to 13 years in a strict regime colony. Samsonov, in his last speech, stated that his case was politicized.
