Oil from Russia stopped flowing to Poland. According to RBC, this was announced on the social network by the head of the Polish oil refinery Orlen, Daniel Obaitek.

“Russia has stopped oil supplies to Poland, for which we are fully prepared. Only 10% of raw materials came from Russia and we will replace it with oil from other directions,” he wrote.

Details on how Warsaw buys oil, Obaitek promised to provide on Tuesday, February 28, at a special conference.

Since December, the EU has imposed an embargo on sea supplies of Russian oil, thus, it came to Europe only through the Druzhba oil pipeline, the northern branch of which runs through Poland to Germany. The European Commission reported in February that, in general, oil imports from Russia to the EU have decreased by 90%.

Bloomberg reported in early February that Warsaw this month intends to halve oil supplies via Druzhba from Russia: from 500,000 tons in January to 220,000 tons. Orlen then told the agency that they would receive 90 % of this fuel. Transneft in December last year reported on Orlen’s application for 3 million tons of Russian oil in 2023.

The agency noted that the decrease in supply volumes was due to Orlen’s refusal to renew one of the expiring contracts with Russia, thus only one remained valid.
