Australia and New Zealand impose sanctions against Russia on the anniversary of the special operation

On the anniversary of the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Australia imposed new sanctions against Russia and promised additional military assistance to Kyiv. It is reported by RBC with reference to the statement of the country’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“The Australian Government has imposed additional targeted financial sanctions and travel bans on 90 people and targeted financial sanctions on 40 entities. The new sanctions targets include Russian ministers in charge of energy, natural resources, industry, education, labour, migration and health,” the statement said.

In addition, persons involved in the Kremlin’s information campaign and defense enterprises were named among those under sanctions: the Kalashnikov concern, the Admiralty Shipyards, Tupolev companies, the State Rocket Center named after academician V.P. Makeev and Kurganmashzavod.

According to the Australian Interior Ministry, the sanctions lists included: Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’; Deputy Prime Ministers Alexander Novak, Alexei Overchuk, Victoria Abramchenko, Tatiana Golikova and Denis Manturov, Heads of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry for the Development of the Far East, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Emergencies, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Health Nikolai Shulginov, Alexei Chekunkov, Valery Falkov, Anton Kotyakov, Alexander Kozlov , Sergey Kravtsov, Alexander Kurenkov, Olga Lyubimova and Mikhail Murashko; head of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova and members of the CEC; heads of the Border Service of the FSB and the Federal Penitentiary Service Vladimir Kulishov and Arkady Gostev; philosopher Alexander Dugin; General Director of Channel One Konstantin Ernst; the Skolkovo Foundation and the Skoltech company; news agency “Sputnik”; Far Eastern Bank and Roseximbank JSC.

As a military aid, Canberra promised Kyiv drones.

Sanctions, timed to coincide with the anniversary of the start of the special operation, were also introduced by New Zealand. According to the head of the country’s Foreign Ministry, Nanaia Mahuta, they touched 87 people, including politicians and the military. According to her, this is “one of the largest rounds” of anti-Russian restrictions by New Zealand.
